Lupus, a serious autoimmune disease affecting around 6,000 Jamaicans and predominantly strikes individuals aged 15 to 44, disrupting their most productive years. This presents challenges such as delayed diagnosis, limited access to care, and high treatment costs. The Lupus Foundation of Jamaica, active since 1984, provides vital support and advocacy. With upcoming programs like Immune Diagnostics and Peer Support Volunteer training, they’re making strides. The theme for Lupus Awareness Month is “Lup-US – You, Me, Us: Stronger Together,” which highlights the unity of the lupus community, their families, and supporters in the fight against lupus.
