Many Jamaicans rang in the New Year at home while others took advantage of the extended curfew imposed by the government. Our news team traversed the corporate area, but little to no activities were observed in cross roads or Halfway tree, this compared to previous years.

In the Downtown, Kingston space however it was a bit livelier but still not what was expected. Jamaicans came out and made use of the extended curfew to ring in the New Year.

Based on observation, many decided to stay indoors as the once busy commercial hub, looked scanty. Vendors say with the 1 am curfew, they thought more people would be out.  Additional police were also deployed in the area. The clock struck 12, and it was evident that the police’s warnings against illegal fireworks and gun salutes fell on deaf ears.
