VAZ, “Put up or shut up!” (April 2, 2019)

Put up or shut up! That is the word from Daryl Vaz, Minister without portfolio within the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation in response to criticism from the Office of the Contractor General that he influenced the sale of a property at  $1 billion Jamaican dollars below the estimated value.

In defending his involvement in the process, Minister Vaz said that the negotiation was not led by him as Minister of Investment, but rather, started under the last PNP administration and when the JLP took office in 2016, he was approached.

The Contractor General report alleges ministerial pressure from Vaz weakened the Urban Development Corporation (UDC’s) position during the negotiations.

The Minister suggested that Jamaica stands to benefit far more than any perceived loss from the sale.
