The traffic police in the corporate will soon be equipped with 100 smart android devices and portable printers to facilitate electronic issuance of traffic tickets. This was announced recently by Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang who says the devices will give officers the ability to reference driver and vehicle information, including ticket history, outstanding tickets, and warrants.
The Ministry of National Security has rolled out devices to modernize the traffic ticket management system and combat indiscipline on the nation’s roadways. With this new system, all traffic tickets issued with the devices will be instantly uploaded to the traffic ticket management system database. This will be accessible by the Jamaica Constabulary Force, the traffic courts, and some Government agencies.
“The objective is to ensure that the ticket is written it goes through where it should go. It is based on a number of issues. When an officer writes a ticket it goes right through the computerized system so there is no way to tear it out or remove it from records” said Dr Chang, Minister of National Security
According to Dr. Chang, more of these devices will be purchased for the public safety and traffic enforcement branch of the Jamaica Constabulary Force. The new ticketing system is expected to eliminate issues caused by manually entering data – and allow for the digital copy of a ticket to be emailed to the offender.
