Sports Minister Hon. Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange, announced at the World Championship team selection press conference on September 11, 2019, that a group of Canadian investors are standing by to build an ice rink, a bobsled practice track and an 800-room boutique hotel on Jamaica’s North Coast.

Minister Grange said that the rink will facilitate tournaments and pre-season training. It will also enhance the possibilities of the ice hockey team appearing in the Olympics as one of the requirements for Olympic qualification is that the country should have at least one ice rink.

Despite being a tropical country, Jamaica has been making a statement in both sporting categories, bobsled and ice hockey at an international scale. The most recent being the Jamaican Senior Mens’ Hockey Team defeating the defending champions, Colombia 3-2, to win the 2019, Amerigol Latam Cup, on September 8, 2019.
