We take a closer look at the matter of violence in schools. The Ministry of Education recently launched a new programme ‘Jus Medz It’ as a response to an outbreak of conflict in schools across the island. The yearlong campaign seeks to shift the culture of violent confrontations and responses among children and students and equip them with conflict-resolution strategies that are peaceful and healthy. But how does that programme differ from all of the attempts at intervention that have come before? We discuss this with General Manager of Peace and Love in Society Jamaica, Janilee Abrikian and President of the National Association of Deans of Discipline, Samuel Smalling.
