The law states that all persons in Jamaica are entitled to the right to freedom of speech (expression) and the right to seek, receive, distribute or disseminate information, opinions, and ideas through any media. While exceptions exist, questions are being raised over whether or not freedom of speech (expression) is being eroded in Jamaica following the arrest of individuals who expressed their opinions online and were subsequently forced to apologize by agents of the state.
People the world over are also questioning the social media companies’ authority to police the elements of expression online with their ability to de-platform even a sitting president.
Is the Western world entertaining an age of censorship?
