Modern food systems, are said to be failing to fulfill their purpose of providing nutritious food and contributing to enhanced livelihoods. In Jamaica, approximately 30% of wastage within the system highlights the lack of efficient agro-processing, insufficient storage for produce as well as challenges with transport and marketing.

However, as part of an approach to developing a global food system that is fair, healthy, and environmentally friendly the Government of Jamaica, in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and the European Union, (EU) is carrying out a large-scale assessment of local systems.

Ms. Magdalena Kropiwnicka, FAO Food Systems assessment expert, and Mr. Orville Palmer Chief Technical Director, Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, joined the CVM Live Panel Discussion to share on the topic.
