There are mixed reactions from experts concerning the government’s recent declaration of a public state of emergency.

Prime Minister, Andrew Holness, made the announcement on Sunday Morning, that his government will be reinforcing a State of Emergency in the South St. Andrew Division in an effort to combat crime.

Retired Lieutenant Commander, George Overton, is fully supportive of the move and says it is indeed a mechanism that can reduce crime and violence.

But security consultant, Bobby Finzi-Smith takes a different angle. He says that Clarendon, which is known to have a high crime rate, has not been selected for special attention.
