In an earnest appeal on Thursday, former National Security Minister Robert Montague called for the resumption of hanging without delay, stressing that Jamaica has averaged over 1, 300 murders per year over the last 10 years.
Montague was making his contribution to the debate on the “Firearms (Prohibition, Restriction and Regulation) Act 22‘“, in the House of Representatives.
The Former National Security Minister argues that by putting a stop to hanging, Jamaica has created a murder factory. Citing statistics to bolster his argument that the punishment is “fit for purpose” He adds that the population moved from 1.6 million to 2.8 million over the 50 years, with murders increasing by 400 percent. Montague stresses that lawmakers should either resume hanging or remove it from the books. More details here:
