The Jamaica Labour Party and People’s National Party were focused on seats deemed as battlegrounds in the recent general election. One of these seats was Clarendon South Eastern where the JLP’s Pearnel Charles Jr was being challenged by the PNP’s Patricia Duncan Sutherland. Charles Jr won that seat.
The Clarendon North seat that was held by the PNP’s Horace Dalley is now with the JLP’s Dwight Sibbles and Clarendon North Central remains in the hands of the JLP.
Central is home to one of the longest-serving parliamentarians in Jamaican history, Minister Mike Henry. Henry has represented the people here for 40 years. He beat the PNP’s Zulieka Jess with 6745 votes to her 3,742.
When nominated Henry had indicated that the work had to continue in the constituency.
The Jamaica Labour Party had its eyes fixed on the Clarendon North Western seat – formerly held by Richard Azan. Phillip Henriques beat him by just 115 votes. Losing the seat was not an option for the party that was seeking a new term in office. Now that it has four seats in the parish, citizens will be looking for further development and growth.
