Prime Minister Andrew Holness has reiterated that he will not call a general election until he is confident of victory, despite mounting pressure from the Opposition for an official announcement.
Speaking to a spirited crowd in South West St. Elizabeth over the weekend, the Prime Minister maintained a cautious stance, urging supporters not to expect a rushed election call. &ldquo;We will not go into an election unless we are sure,&rdquo; Holness declared, as party loyalists cheered.
With the political engine beginning to rev, Holness encouraged Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) supporters and workers to stay mobilized and prepared. &ldquo;All hands on deck,&rdquo; he urged, as the JLP gears up for what is shaping to be a competitive political season.
Member of Parliament Floyd Green, who currently represents the constituency, did not shy away from taking aim at the People's National Party (PNP), attributing ongoing development projects to efforts by the current administration to clean up what he described as failures by the former PNP government. &ldquo;All that&rsquo;s being fixed now is because they didn&rsquo;t do what they were supposed to do,&rdquo; Green said, energizing the crowd.
Also speaking at the event, Minister of Education Dr. Dana Morris Dixon emphasized the critical role of party workers, underscoring their value in the upcoming political campaign.
Meanwhile, the PNP has put forward Miranda Wellington as its candidate to challenge Green for the South West St. Elizabeth seat. Whether Wellington can gather enough momentum to unseat the incumbent remains to be seen, but all signs point to a heated contest ahead.
