More than 200 elderly persons and shut-ins from Middle Quarters and surrounding areas in St. Elizabeth were treated to a warm meal and care packages recently by the Middle Quarters Community Development Committee (CDC).

President of the Middle Quarters CDC Stashauna Burnett says many elderly persons in the community are not necessarily living on their own but have family members or caregivers who have lost their jobs because of COVID-19, the initiative aimed to ease the pressure off the caregivers.

Ms. Burnett praised the over 50 volunteers who assisted with the packaging and delivery of the meals and care packages to the recipients’ homes. The initiative was headed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries and Member of Parliament for Southwest St. Elizabeth, Hon. Floyd Green. There were also representatives from Sandals South Coast, St. Elizabeth Municipal Corporation, the School Community Outreach Programme for Education (SCOPE), among others.

Ms. Burnett says the Community Development Committee will continue to assist the elderly and the needy in the community.
