Canon Hartley Perrin, Custos of Westmoreland says while there may be merit to the world cup having it is usual crime reduction effect, there is no denying the effectiveness of the States of Public Emergency (SOPE) in tackling crime in the western parish. He spoke to CVM Live hours after the Prime Minister Holness declared another SOPE in the space. While noting mixed feelings towards the crime-fighting tool, he says it will be crucial for the security forces to strike a balance. He went further to explain many will want to enjoy the festivities after several months of lockdowns spurred by the pandemic. However, Perrin too has been lending support to the measure.
