Vendors in the May Pen Market today staged a protest after police confiscated their goods for alleged breaches.

It’s understood that the vendors have been selling in a no vending zone and were given ample time to relocate to the inside of the market but some refused to comply. Vendors in the may pen market were livid Tuesday morning after police officers took their goods as the area they were peddling their wares, was a no vending zone.

According to vendor Cynthia Henry, she was not aware they were precluded from vending in that area. Another vendor says it’s unreasonable and their lively-hoods are being affected.

A yellow line was drawn, to indicate where the vendors should remain. This vendor is appealing to the May Pen Mayor Winston Maraj to intervene. Meanwhile Mayor Maraj says the protest by the vendors is unfortunate, as sufficient notice was given.
