Unemployment Hits Historic Low At 6.2 %

Unemployment plunged to it’s lowest in recorded history at 6.2 per cent. Meanwhile, inflation climbed in March due to myriad factors to include the rising cost of fuel and oil impacting transportation and electricity. The Statistical Institute of Jamaica also found that the employed labour force grew in January 2022. Jamaica’s economy is still seeing signs of recovery. That’s according to statin’s director general carol coy.

She spoke extensively about the country’s growth and inflation at statin’s quarterly media briefing, Thursday. However, inflation for March saw an increase of just under 2 per cent. Coy says the overall inflation rate was influenced by a 3 point 9 per cent increase in housing, water, gas and other fuels category.

Meanwhile, STATIN says the country January labour force survey revealed another increase. Real estate led the way for the latest employments followed by accommodation services and foods, and construction on the other hand.
