President of the People’s National Party, Mark Golding, is joining forces with Mikael Phillips, the Member of Parliament for North West Manchester, to call on the government to address the critical issue of the Hector’s River Bridge in Troy, Manchester. Phillips, who also serves as the Opposition’s Works Spokesman, emphasizes the urgent need to repair the bridge due to the potential risks it poses to the local residents. Both leaders conducted a community tour on Wednesday to assess the situation.

The Hector’s River Bridge, which now resembles a zipline-like contraption, is not a leisurely attraction; it has become a necessity for the community. This centuries-old bridge collapsed during Tropical Storm Grace in 2021, compelling residents to resort to makeshift solutions for crossing the river. The bridge served as both a literal and symbolic connection between Manchester and Trelawny. Residents depend on it for daily commutes, and they are ever thankful for each safe crossing, hoping to avert any mishaps. Watch the report:
