In concluding the 2022/23 Sectoral Debate in the Lower House on Tuesday, Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett provided a synopsis of the developments in the sector since the last fiscal year. He also highlighted partnerships with international investors interested in Jamaica and the region.

Minister Bartlett highlights arrival figures from the Jamaica Tourist Board proving the sector’s resilience and a return to pre-pandemic performance. However, he notes to maintain this momentum and to realize the 2024 projections of 4.5 million visitor arrivals and US $4.7 billion in gross foreign exchange revenues, the groundwork must be laid; this he says is now in action.

Bartlett further adds, coming out of a high-level meeting with the Jet Blue Leadership Team at their New York City Headquarters, the airline announced that by July 2022 they will be increasing the number of seats between the United States and Montego Bay by 40 per cent compared to July 2019. The announcement is considered a significant boost for Jamaica.

The Minister also highlights the strengthening of alliances with tourism stakeholders and international partners. Watch the full report for more details:
