House Speaker Marisa Dalrymple Philibert on Wednesday scolded Members of Parliament (MP) for their habitual tardiness; resulting in a clash between the Opposition’s Anthony Hylton and the Jamaica Labour Party’s (JLP) Everald Warmington.

The speaker deemed it an embarrassment as students watched on from the gallery.

When Wednesday’s sitting of the House of Representatives commenced at 2 pm, Leader of Opposition Business, Phillip Paulwell pointed out that the house was operating without a quorum; according to the standing orders, the quorum of the house and a committee of the whole house consists of 16 members apart from the person presiding. House Speaker, Marisa Dalrymple Philibert while reprimanding members for their tardiness, says it is a sad day and a poor reflection on all MPs.

But Member of Parliament for St. Catherine South Western, Everald Warmington objected to the House Speaker’s scolding, defending his lateness on that day. He then lashed out at Member of Parliament for St. Andrew Western, Anthony Hylton who muttered something that further angered him.  More details below:
