Taxi operators in South East St. Ann who traverse the route from Limehall to Claremont, withdrew their services on Monday and blocked the roadway in protest of the poor road conditions.
They say money was allocated for the road repairs months ago but insist they continue to suffer.
Member of Parliament for South East St. Ann, Lisa Hanna responded to the taxi operators; She says the government and the National Works Agency (NWA) failed to act on their promise to fix the road in June 2021.
According to the MP the road from Claremont to Higgin Town in the constituency has been the subject of ‘political victimization and sabotage’ to the residents. She says she has made representation on the matter from as early as October 30, 2020, when she wrote to the National Works Agency advising for urgent attention.
Hanna says she followed up with Minister Everald Warmington, seeking information, and on June 29, 2021, she received formal communication from that $30 million was finally allocated to fix sections of the road.
MP Hanna is calling on the government to publicly address the matter.
