State of Emergency Declared in St. James

Prime Minister Andrew Holness has declared a State of Emergency for St James. Holness announced the security measure at this morning’s Post Cabinet briefing. St James has been experiencing a spate of murders in recent weeks – including two children on Monday.

Laws to be amended by December 2023

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister is urging legislators to amend the law by December with stricter criminal penalties as the rules are not strict enough especially when compared to other jurisdictions.

Jamaicans can soon expect a bill to amend the gun and murder charges.
