Minister of State for National Security Zavia Mayne, toured the Tower Street and South Camp Adult Correctional Centres to assess the conditions under which meals are procured for inmates among other concerns.

The tour follows the government’s plans to improve the standard of correctional centres for the upcoming financial year. Ahead of the Ministry’s plans to improve the standards of Jamaica’s correctional centres in the new fiscal year, Minister Mayne, visited the tower street and the south camp adult correctional centres in Kingston, on Friday.

His visit saw him assessing the standards and procurement processes for meals at the facilities. Mayne says the government continues to examine the situation in all correctional facilities across the country to improve the standards. Minister Mayne says preparations are ongoing for wards and inmates to sit CSEC exams, adding the previous results have been satisfactory. Meanwhile, the state minister says efforts to remove prohibited items from the correctional facilities have proved challenging.

He’s warning further sanctions will be issued for those in breach.
