St. Thomas Fire Fighters Struggle with Faulty Fire Hydrants

Firefighters in St. Thomas struggled to source water to extinguish a blaze that destroyed a shop despite, being metres away from a fire hydrant. The shop owner values his loss at 75 million dollars.

The silver hawk auto parts, at Poor Man’s corner, was burnt to the ground Sunday night, only a few feet away from a fire hydrant. On-lookers who witnessed the destruction of the establishment say they watched as firefighters concluded the hydrant was not working.

The firefighters were forced to travel outside the area to source water as fire consumed the business.

Locals say the fire could have been brought under control sooner, had the hydrant been functional. They are demanding the relevant authorities prioritize these matters. Despite being unable to save the building, the fire fighters are being dubbed heroes of the night, for putting out the fire before it could spread to other establishments.
