Transport and Mining Minister, Robert Montague says the newly opened multi-million dollar rainwater reservoir in St. Ann will bring ease to residents impacted by mining over the years.

Minister Montague says creating this facility has been years in the making, and lauds the Noranda Bauxite Limited for making it happen. He was speaking at the official opening of the facility on Tuesday, December 21, 2021.

The cries of residents in Watt Town and surrounding communities in St. Ann are finally being heard as Noranda Bauxite Limited opens a rainwater harvesting reservoir.

These communities are located in a major bauxite area, thus residents have been complaining that the residue from mining affects their health.

Montague says this facility will also limit expenses on Noranda’s part, as they would no longer have to pay truck drivers to transport water from Discovery Bay to the area.

He says by eliminating this, will also lessen accidents. Montague says the company invested approximately 800,000 USD for the facility.
