A special waiver of Spectrum License and regulatory fees has been approved for the implementation of the National Broadband Network that is already underway. The Ministry of Science and Technology says it is being granted access to additional spectrum to telecommunication providers under the Programme for the digitization of content.
The request for proposal is expected to be ready by January for telecommunication providers to implement the programme .
According to the Minister of Science and Technology, Daryl Vaz there will be waived spectrum licensing and regulatory fees for a period of three months to support the Ministry of Education’s use of satellite technology.
The technology brings connectivity to remote schools.
The rollout of the National Broadband Network includes four components, a digital transmission network which will see households across the island receiving educational content to assist students. As well as a national build-out of fibre optic communication and increased public wifi hot spots.
The National Broadband Network is estimated to cost 237 million USD.
