South West St. Elizabeth caretaker, the People’s National Party’s, (PNP) Ewan Stephenson has died. It is understood he had been long battling cancer. He passed away on Thursday, September 8, leaving many who knew and loved him saddened.
The 59-year-old South West St Elizabeth caretaker celebrated his last birthday on Tuesday, September 7, two days before bidding this world farewell. Ewan Stephenson lost his political bid for the constituency in the 2020 general elections to the Jamaica Labour Party’s, (JLP) Floyd Green.
During that campaign, questions were raised as to whether Stephenson who had undergone a surgical procedure in his fight with cancer would be fit to serve as a candidate. Minister Green stated that he and Stephenson shared a good relationship despite their divergent political views. He noted that he was always cordial and passionate about service.
Tributes poured out on social media from several of his colleagues in the PNP. Opposition Leader, Mark Golding described Stephenson as a man who served the people well. He expressed gratitude for his service, urging him to rest in power. Other members expressing sadness included Southeast St. Ann MP, Lisa Hanna and PNP Vice President, Mikhael Phillips.
