Soup kitchen established in Kingston: Earlier this year a make-shift facility was established in Kingston to cater to people who reside on the streets. And since then the number of homeless persons have been increasing.

With Christmas, just days away and no place to call home for many, the Ministry of Local Government provided homeless persons with food from the opening of a Soup Kitchen on Sunday, December 20.

Speaking at the opening of a new facility, Minister of Local Government, Desmond McKenzie, highlighted the reality of over 2000 Jamaicans on the streets, most of which are in the Corporate Area.

Minister McKenzie added that while a make shift facility was opened in March of this year the number of those homeless has increased. He says they have been providing financial support to this initiative and will continue to do so.

Meanwhile, Mayor of Kingston and St. Andrew, Delroy Williams is advising individuals who desire to assist in feeding the homeless, to go through the correct channels.
