Tensions are rising with some teachers yet to receive their salaries consisting the recently agreed retroactive payment. President of the Jamaica Teachers Association (JTA), Lasonja Harrison, told CVM LIVE the new structure incentivises newly- transitioned teachers much higher than their seniors angering many long-serving, highly qualified members.

They were promised the retroactive salaries would be paid over to them Monday, March 27, 2023, but imagine the shock, disappointment and rage when several teachers went to check their accounts to see no payment. JTA Boss, Lasonja Harrison notes their mounting frustration with their employer the Government of Jamaica, Harrison says they are unclear as to when the monies will now be paid. With the mass migration of teachers, a likely consequence of the latest fallouts, Harrison says in the coming weeks and days the effect of the agreement will be seen. 

Meantime, she explains calls flooded her phone from senior teachers who even with their Master’s Degree received under 300 thousand dollars with the retroactive pay added. Watch the report:
