Small business operators in Cave Valley, St. Ann are picking up what is left of their livelihoods following two days of heavy rainfall associated with Tropical Storm Ida.
Miss Shaggy, a business operator in Cave Valley, has been operating a cook shop in the Cave Valley square in St. Ann for over 30 years. However, with just over two days of persistent heavy rainfall, her livelihood is at a standstill.
An elderly man, who resides in the square says he was awaken by some men in the area, however, he was only able to save a refrigerator that he own with the help of the men. The surrounding environs were also impacted by floodwaters as a result of a nearby river that overflowed its banks. Fallen trees blocked a section of the Cave Valley road.
Workmen were seen clearing debris backed up beneath a bridge to allow a free channel for the water to flow easily.
Two operators of an establishment in the area among their losses are a deep freeze, a refrigerator, among other things. The operators say due to the lack of man power and the fast pace of the water they were unable to save most of what were in their shops.
