Shaquille Higgins, who was taken into custody shortly after a video with him directing insults at Prime Minister Andrew Holness following the revision of COVID-19 measures went viral, has sought legal representation to take legal action against the state.

Higgins’ Attorney, Charles Ganga-Singh says no stones will be left unturned as Higgins’ case represents a clear violation of human rights. Ganga- Singh says the legal strategies will not be disclosed right now but the matter will be dealt with. However he states that they are prepared to face whatever is presented by the police.

Shaquille Higgins’ apprehension by the police triggered outrage as he was instructed by the police to apologize to the Prime Minister. The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), however, say Higgins was taken for questioning relating to case larceny, he was questioned and released by the police. The police high command has ordered an investigation into the matter, noting that apologies are not to be solicited or coerced from members of the public.
