The St. Ann police are reporting a 25 percent reduction in serious and violent crimes since the start of the year.
As at Thursday, March 18, 59 cases of serious and violent crimes have been recorded when compared to 79 cases during the same period in 2020.
According to the police, the decline is as a result of their relentless effort in enforcing the law.
St. Ann is seeing a decline in all seven categories of major crimes with the exception of two.
Murders in the parish are down by more than 20 per cent and shootings by more than 50 per cent.
Head of the St. Ann Police Division Superintendent, Dwight Powell says the reduction isn’t happening by chance, but as a result of the strategies being put in place.
He says the latest shooting occurred Tuesday night in Philadelphia, Browns town in the parish and before the night ended, the suspect was taken into custody.
Meanwhile, Superintendent Powell says the police have been making significant progress in curtailing illegal parties in the parish.
