SENIOR CITIZEN CONTINUES LEGAL BATTLE AGAINST TRANSPORT AUTHORITY

Despite a Court Order to discontinue claims against the Transport Authority, a senior citizen, Berchelle Melbourne is taking the matter a step further for what he considers overdue rent despite no evidence of land ownership

He has sought legal support in attaining the land title to prove that the land occupied by the transport authority is lawfully his.
According to Melbourne, the property located at Whydah, St Margarets Bay, Portland, is rightfully is since he had paid the owner in 1999 to acquire 12 acres.

He says the land was in a swamp-like condition. However, he took measures to reform the area and built a block business.
However, soon after this was removed and the Transport Authority establishment was created.

It was at this point that Melbourne sought legal action. However, the court did not rule in his favor. Instead, the senior citizen was asked to discontinue the claim against the Transport Authority for rent, as there was no evidence to prove ownership or any right to the land of which the Authority is in possession.

The Transport Authority also responded to the claims by Melbourne. According to them, the claim being made that they are indebted to him is false. They add that the authority is unaware of any new development or any change in circumstance which would have given Mr. Melbourne just cause to interfere with the premises.
However, Melbourne has recently disclosed, that he will continue with the matter.

The National Land Agency has advised that Melbourne must ensure that he has been paying taxes from acquiring the property to acquire the Title. He must also have proof that the land was transferred to him.
