Security guards took to the streets of the corporate area over not seeing any action taken following a court ruling regarding the switch from contract to staff. The guards say the current treatment is unreasonable and is not beneficial to their lives and livelihoods.

They are demanding urgent attention to their plight. Over a month since the supreme court ruled security guards attached to the marksman security company, will be upgraded from contract workers to staff with benefits.

Teddy-Lee Gray Head of the Jamaica Association of Private Security laments since the ruling there has been no communication with the association. He notes the treatment meted out to security guards is unconscionable and not conducive to their lives and livelihoods. He is calling on other private companies to hold high moral ground. Meanwhile, President of Jamaica’s Society for Industrial Security Lieutenant Commander George Overton says amid the Supreme Court’s ruling, there is still a process to be done.

However, the Private Security Association says if there is no further action taken, protests will continue.
