Smooth Transition Back to School: Increased Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) Buses Alleviate Commuting Pressure – Amidst the back-to-school hustle, as students, teachers, and transport operators slip back into their routines, our reporter, Kimberly, visited Halfway Tree to assess the ease of navigating the city on the first day of school. This was especially significant since a substantial number of JUTC buses were deployed to alleviate the commuting pressure.
A noteworthy 96 additional buses hit the streets this morning, marking a total of 236 functioning buses for the new school year. Transport Minister Daryl Vaz confirmed this figure, which was approximately 60 buses less than the initial projection from last week. Nevertheless, he emphasized that this increase is a significant step toward addressing transportation challenges across the country.
Despite the anticipation of higher traffic volumes on Monday, some taxi operators reported that commuting has been surprisingly smooth, taking into account that this week primarily involves school orientation activities. Watch the report:
