After recent delays, the school train service is scheduled to resume on January 10 and will run from Old Harbour and Linstead, to Spanish town, St. Catherine.
As face to face learning resumes, parents island-wide are raising concerns about safety and expense. The Transport Ministry, in partnership with the Education Ministry, Jamaica Railway Corporation, Jamaican Urban Transit Company (JUTC) and the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) are aiming to address those concerns with a new transport option for students.
Some persons in Linstead, St. Catherine are commending the government on the move. One woman tells CVM Live she’s relieved students who take public transportation can now do so safely.She says it will also ease financial concerns as the service is promised to be cost-effective.
Another woman says with this service, parents can no longer make excuses for not sending children to school. Despite positive feedback, some persons are however raising concerns, the most popular being whether the designated trains are up to standard.
Others are also concerned about whether COVID-19 protocols will effectively be upheld.
