Ruling On Phone Recordings in Klansman Trial Expected on Monday
The One Don Klansman Gang trial resumed in the Supreme Court on Thursday, February 10, with the prosecution making several submissions to the court to allow for the admission of telephone recordings into evidence. On Monday, Chief Justice Bryan Sykes is to deliver a decision on whether he will accept the secret recordings of the alleged members.
These recordings contain conversations between alleged members of the gang, that were secretly taped by a former member turned witness. The Crown’s case against the alleged gang leader and 32 of his co-accused relies heavily on these recordings as they are being tried in the Home Circuit Court under the Criminal Justice (Suppression of Criminal Organisations Act), 2014, also known as the anti-gang legislation, on an indictment with twenty-five counts.
