For more than 4 weeks residents of Charlemont Road in Kingston have been inconvenienced after the collapse of the roadway. Residents claim the collapse follows the recent laying of a sewer line by the National Water Commission, (NWC).
Gaping holes where a road once was, is what you can find on Charlemont Drive in Kingston, all this in the name of development. To accommodate the building of an apartment complex in the area, a sewer line had to be laid. Since then, sections of the road have been opened more than once.
Marl has been used as a temporary fix, but the persistent rainfall has rendered that method ineffective. Thousands of dollars in damages were sustained by motorists who have fallen into the cavity. Although the residents have had three meetings with the NWC, where they aired their concerns results are yet to be seen.
The NWC shared a statement with CVM Live where they say the team has been doing temporary corrections in the area, but their efforts were hampered by persistent bad weather. The residents now seek to take legal action to see rectify the issue the bad road in the area.
