Residents of mango valley in St. Mary are the latest to benefit from the government’s free community Wi-Fi programme, under the Universal Service Fund’s, USF.
The Public Wi-Fi Hot-spot programme is geared towards transforming Jamaica into a digital society. The covid-19 pandemic has accelerated plans to expand internet connectivity across the country, to further improve the quality of life. It is for this reason the universal service fund, usf is aiming to set up public Wi-Fi hotspot in 189 communities across the island.
To date they have completed installations in 105 communities.
Speaking at a recent launch of the project in Mango Valley St. Mary, Minister of Science, Energy and Technology Daryl Vaz says the provision of internet access will provide greater opportunities. Commending the USF, Minister Vaz says a nation without innovation has no space to compete in the global world.
Member of Parliament for western St. Mary, Robert Montague says mango valley is at the cutting edge of technology. This is the third such facility to be connected to the internet by way of satellite in the constituency.
