Reduction In Road Fatalities Since 2023: PSTEB

Preliminary reports reveal a major decline in road deaths since January 2023, compared to previous years. In encouraging motorists to maintain safety on the roads, Head of the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch (PSTEB),  Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Gary McKenzie explains most of the crashes along the roadways are a result of human error.

ACP McKenzie points to the major crash hot spots which include the North Coast Highway, Nelson Mandela, Bustamante Highway, and the Llandovery Main Road in St Ann. Twenty-three (23) collisions resulted in twenty-five (25) fatalities on the nation’s roads since the start of 2023 is the latest update. He notes when compared to 2022 there has been a reduction. While encouraging motorists to maintain safety on the roads McKenzie said crashes mostly affect vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and motorcyclists.  St Catherine is one of the major parishes in the country where law enforcers continue to experience the challenge of maintaining road user safety.
