PUBLIC REACTS TO DISRUPTION IN PUBLIC TRANSPORT OPERATIONS

Dozens of commuters were stranded as taxi drivers have reportedly withdrawn their services to protest Monday night’s stabbing death of one of their colleagues allegedly by an employee of the Jamaican Urban Transit Company (JUTC).

Since that incident, one JUTC driver has been shot dead, prompting workers at the state-run bus company to also withdraw their services.

According to police a dispute occurred along Washington Boulevard in Kingston at about 6:45pm which resulted in the fatal stabbing of a 37-year old taxi driver identified as Akeno Britton of Ambrook Lane.

A few hours later, a JUTC driver was shot dead on oxford roadOxford Road Ckel Donaldson also known as biggs from shooters hill, bull bay.

In the meantime, the JUTC driver who allegedly stabbed the taxi operator is now reportedly in police custody.

Transport Minister Robert Montague is urging calm from all involved, as the authorities try to restore normality to the transportation sector as soon as possible.

The public safety and traffic enforcement branch, PSTEB is currently using three of its buses to transport commuters.
