PSOJ Supports Imposition of States of Emergency

The Private Sector Organization of Jamaica (PSOJ) is airing its support for States of Public Emergency as a short-term crime plan. This follows a recent review tribunal that addressed gaps in the Emergency Powers Act.

The PSOJ pledges support for the imposition of states of emergency as a short-term crime tool in light of the revised tribunal of the Emergency Powers Act. Under the tribunal, a review of a person’s detention is mandatory within seven days, as opposed to previous provisions that allowed for extensive detention without charge.

Subsequently, PSOJ President Keith Duncan says the organization is in full support of the SOE. He believes crime has been crippling to businesses and the Jamaican economy at large because it affects productivity.
