Prime Minister Andrew Holness is warning road users to exercise caution amid traffic accident surge. The call for road safety continues with the upward trend of road accidents from the Easter weekend. The Prime Minister shares his concern for the nation since the lifting of the Disaster Risk Management Act (DRMA). The latest crash reports up to April 20 indicate there have been 133 fatalities since the start of the year. As such, Mr. Holness is urging citizens to be responsible to avoid paying the ultimate price. He insists people will still arrive at their destination even if they drive slower or with greater care.
Holness went further, stating the increase in road accidents will only place a burden on Jamaica’s health system. He is urging precaution, particularly for those who traverse without a helmet, and says a stricter road traffic act will be introduced in short order. Watch the report below:
