Jamaicans at home and in the diaspora are celebrating Emancipation 2020 under restrictions prompted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Prime Minister, Andrew Holness in his address to the nation on Saturday, says education is a pertinent tool in the continued freedom of Jamaicans.

He made reference to the recently created National Education Transformation Commission, which he says will navigate the country to having a growing economy and thriving society in line with the new global order, driven by knowledge and technology.

In addressing the importance for social justice in the country, the Prime Minister says Jamaica stands in solidarity with the growing global movement to awaken social consciousness to the structural and systemic issues which threaten Black people.

Holness also took the opportunity to urge Jamaicans to adhere to the Covid-19 restrictions throughout the Emancipation period.
