During a visit to the victims of Monday’s fire in Central Kingston, Prime Minister Andrew Holness made promises to see to the reconstruction of the houses that were destroyed. He commented on challenges like the limited space available but says this will not prevent proper redevelopment of their homes.  

While reassuring the residents of the government’s commitment to their plight, Holness expounded on the government’s plans to provide housing solutions that will make houses available to more Jamaicans.  Holness sought to encourage residents to continue building a sense of unity in the community. 

The Prime Minister also commented on the crime situation in the area, advising residents to play their part in the fight against lawlessness. Prime Minister Holness says though there are calls for zones of special operations, to continue in the area, the decision is not that simple. The fire impacted James Street and Smith Lane residents as at least eight homeowners were affected, leaving over 30 residents homeless.  Watch the full report:
