Prime Minister Andrew Holness has made clear his intention to take legislative action against producers and dealers of ‘Molly’. In late September, while chairing the monthly sitting of the National Security Council, (NSC), a presentation from the National Council on Drug Abuse (NCDA) was made, highlighting the increased use of psychoactive substances and their deviant effect on the youth, particularly coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a release Wednesday, the office of the Prime Minister says, a situational assessment undertaken in May by the NCDA pointed to a growing trend in the use of ‘molly’ also known as ecstasy, particularly among the youth.
According to the NCDA, the impact of the drug has manifested in increased socially risky and physically dangerous behaviour. Of the Prime Minister says considering the National implications, the Prime Minister has directed that the laws around these psychoactive substances be amended to adequately capture the threat they pose and hold producers and traffickers accountable.
