There is a call by Prime Minister Andrew Holness for a united effort from government officials and Jamaicans to tackle Jamaica’s crime. He notes political differences, as one of many reasons contributing to the crime rate over the years. ‘There’s need for political consensus between government bodies, to reduce the violence in society,’ said the Prime Minister.  

Speaking at the National Commission on Violence Prevention, Holness reached across the aisle to members of the opposition, noting a factual, unbiased approach needs to be taken by an independent body, to eliminate political interests in the fight against crime. However, he adds that while there have been improvements, there is still work to be done. Watch the full report:
