Portland’s Most Wanted Man Nabbed in Caenwood, Hope Bay

On Tuesday, January 18, Portland’s most wanted criminal was nabbed by the police in Caenwood, Hope Bay after being on the run for murder for more than 2 years.

The Portland police in September 2021, listed Elroy Griffiths otherwise called ‘Greg’ as number one on their most wanted list for the murder of 50-year-old Maureen Johnson, his common-law wife on August 20, 2019, in Buff Bay. Johnson was allegedly stabbed during a dispute with Griffiths and the house they occupied, set ablaze with her inside. 

The two had reportedly lived together for about 18 years.

At about 5 Tuesday morning, a joint police-military team went in search of Griffiths in Caenwood, Hope Bay, where he was found inside a house with a woman from the area; both of whom were taken into custody.
