As construction plans for the South Coast Highway speed up, an increase in dust in several communities across Portland causes problems for residents. They are calling for swift action from their representative; they dread the damage being done to their health and their livelihoods.  

The construction progress has greeted residents with a cover of unwanted dust, lingering through their businesses, homes, and even on their bodies, raising a swarm of health concerns. 

One employee in the area, says since the construction began, she has watched the business lose customers, repelled by the conditions.  However, Member of Parliament for Portland Eastern Ann-Marie Vaz says a number of trucks have been deployed to wet the roads each day. 

But she says the roads dry quickly, noting the parish’s extreme weather conditions. Watch the full report:
