The Ocho Rios vendor allegedly responsible for selling THC-infused sweets to over sixty primary students, resulting in their subsequent illnesses, is still being actively pursued by the police. During the Jamaica Constabulary Force media conference on Tuesday, Commissioner of Police Major General Anthony Anderson disclosed a potential lead in the case. The commissioner revealed that the police have identified an individual they believe can provide valuable assistance in their investigation into the incident at Ocho Rios Primary School on Tuesday, October 3.
The commissioner also shared that numerous students had to be rushed to St. Ann’s Bay Hospital after consuming THC-infused sweets. He continued by emphasizing the growing concern surrounding locally manufactured synthetic drugs, a topic discussed at the International Drug Enforcement Conference (IDEC 37) held last September. He cautioned that while these drugs are not yet prevalent in Jamaica, the nation should remain vigilant, especially in light of the opioid crisis currently affecting our neighbor, the United States of America.
