The St. Ann police along with the island traffic authority and the Transport Authority embarked on a road safety operation earlier at the border of Trelawny and St. Ann, which resulted in close to a dozen people being arrested. Several items were also seized, to include 28 boxes of counterfeit liquor.
This as part of the police’s effort to protect citizens from criminals traversing the space as well as motorists breaching the road traffic act. A joint operation conducted at the border of Trelawny and St. Ann in Bengal District, geared towards reassuring residents of their safety, detecting criminals traversing the space and clamping down on road traffic breaches. Head of operations in St. Ann, Deputy Superintendent Kevin Francis says several persons were taken into custody for processing, including three men said to be from East Kingston.
DSP Francis says reports have been made about persons posing as police officers, in an attempt to rob motorists along the corridor. He’s urging motorists to remain vigilant. DSP Francis says there are also concerns about the number of road fatalities recorded in St. Ann. Since the start of the year 13 people have died in 10 fatal crashes in the parish.
